Description/Notes:
Sir James Shand MBE (January 28 1908 — December 23 2000) was a Scottish musician who played traditional Scottish dance music on the accordion. [Source: Wikipedia]
Described as the “Grand old man of Scottish dance music” and “The famously diffident accordion maestro”, Jimmy Shand was awarded the M.B.E. A trust fund initiated and set up by the earl of Elgin and Kincardine which received worldwide support has paid for the portrait to honour one of Scotland’s greatest musicians. This painting is now part of the Scottish national collection and we are most grateful for the loan by the Trustees of the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland.
